Welcome to the website of the Standon and Puckeridge Bowls Club.

We are very sorry to report that Mr Dick Trim, a former Club Captain; President and long term member has passed away after a long illness. Our thoughts go out to his wife Gill and family at this difficult time.

12-11-2020 – The season has now finished and the improvements we are making to the green and club house have paused for the winter. Due to both the second lockdown and the need for continuing social distance, we have taken the decision to delay the mandatory annual AGM until we have a clearer picture as to what will be happening in 2021 – we expect this to be in the first quarter of 2021

In addition to being able to play singles matches – Bowls England have now issued guidance that:

‘The Government confirmed yesterday (Monday 1st June) that groups of six can now meet outside provided people from different households observe social distancing (staying at least 2m apart).

This is good news for bowls, as we are aware many of our clubs that have opened, or wished to reopen, felt the previous Government guidance on numbers was restrictive, a number observing that pairs in particular could be played safely in accordance with social distancing.

Whilst the Government guidance now enables triples play, clubs may also wish to consider alternative formats with reduced numbers per rink – for example singles and pairs – in order for social distancing to be more easily maintained.’

All other information about how to book and also how to let people know you want to play is as detailed in the post of 18th May below

Latest Situation 18th May 2020

The Government this week announced that facilities associated with outdoor sports and physical activities, including lawn bowls, may now reopen.

Government guidance released on 13th May 2020 states: “You can play lawn bowls where facilities have reopened, but you can only take part in these activities by yourself, or with members of your household or with one person outside of your household, as long as you are able to maintain social distancing.”

The Committee had a meeting yesterday and we have decided:

That we will re-open Rinks 1 & 2 as of now

Rinks 3 & 4 will remain closed as we are carrying out maintenance on these areas

Only singles matches will be allowed

John Simmons

We are saddened to be told of the death of John Simmons on Saturday (11/4/2020). John had been a member of the Standon & Puckeridge Bowls Club for over 50 years. He carried out many different duties over the years. He was our Groundsman; Club Secretary and President.

Additionally, he carried on to become a long serving Secretary of the East Herts Bowls Association and served as their President on two occasions (1984 & 2002).

John was a valued member of our club; his knowledge of our sport was vast and his presence will be greatly missed by many people in the wider bowls community.

Our thoughts go out to his daughter and grandchild at this sad time
